A Saudi man killed in a blast at a house in the Saudi capital was under investigation for suspected links to Osama bin Laden's terrorist network, the Interior Ministry said Saturday.

Security officials believe the man identified as 30-year-old Fahd bin Samran bin Amir al-Saedi was preparing a bomb that exploded prematurely on Tuesday.

He had a record and is believed to have trained with al-Qaida in Afghanistan, the official Saudi Press Agency quoted the ministry as saying.

Police found 45 pounds of high explosives, guns, a large amount of unidentified chemicals and fake identification papers at his home, the agency said.

Saudi Arabia is the homeland of Osama bin Laden and 15 of the 19 hijackers who carried out the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
